CAR PARK ACCESS

Access to the carpark during September will be via the West to West site entrance off Odern Crescent.  Turn to the left for access to both the overflow carpark and the bitumen carpark.


PLANNING AHEAD

Friday Afternoon Duty Partner
Having a duty partner available on Friday afternoon has proven to be very popular, and the roster has been extended through to the end of the year. This provides an excellent opportunity to play on Friday afternoon if your regular partner is away. The usual rules, two singles get to play together, one single gets to play with the duty partner. Thank you to those volunteering to be duty partners.

King’s Birthday (PM)
The afternoon session on 29 September is Red Points. The morning session is Green Points.

Mixed Pairs Championship
The WABC Mixed Pairs Championship is over two Friday afternoons, 10 & 17 October.

Open & Restricted Teams Championships
The two WABC Teams Championships are being held on Saturday 25 October over two sessions, 9:30am & 1:15pm.

Daytime Pairs Championship
Congratulations to Jonathan Free & Mimi Packer who won from Angeline Christie & Chris Mulley.

Joan Prince Memorial Swan River Swiss Pairs
This BAWA run event was played over the 23 & 24 August at WABC, and one of our members, Tim Wright playing with David Schokman won from Paul Brayshaw & Chris Mulley. Well done everyone.

South Perth Winter Congress
The Open Pairs Final was won by Beata Bieganski & Tuya Cooke
The Teams was won by Chris Cullen, Jonathan Free, Gill Gavshon & Mimi Packer.

The WA Metro GNOT Final
The metro final was won by a team captained by Viv Wood playing with Gerry Daly, Trevor Fuller & Marnie Leybourne.

47th World Bridge Team Championships (Herning, Denmark)
Renee Cooper
of Perth, WA was a member of the Australian Women’s Team that made the final eight of the Venice Cup. Other members of the team were, Therese Demarco, Ella Jacob, Dagmar Nuemann, Sue Lusk, Jodi Tutty, Axel Johannsson (NPC) & Kate McCullum (Coach). The team lost to the eventual winners, Netherlands, in the quarter finals.


MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

Welcome to the following new members: Noelle Anderson, Caroline Gaynor, Mark Goddard, Darlene Gould, Robert McWilliam, Susan Oldham, Judith Tomlinson & Sara Watson.

Farewell to Tony Brand, who passed away on 15 August 2025. Tony’s daughter, Caroline Brand, has just passed on her gratitude to those who attended his funeral in late August and thanked attendees for their support and for sharing their stories and memories after the service.


LESSONS

Card Play – Two weeks, Thursday mornings, September 18 & 25 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am; $15 per session. Run by Martin Doran & Jane Henderson. Improve your declarer play in no-trump contracts. Aimed at those who have finished the second beginner’s course, or a previous Rookies course, or anyone who wants to start taking more tricks as declarer.

Beginners Part 2 – Starts Monday 20 October with a choice of morning or evening classes. Run by Jodie Basham. Suitable for those who have completed Part 1.
