Vale Jocelyn Parry
Jocelyn Parry passed away on Tuesday 6 May 2025.
Jocelyn was a member of WABC for many years and played almost very day of the week. Jocelyn won the Mabs McCulloch Patrons Cup six times.
A celebration to honour Jocelyn's life will be held on Thursday, 22nd May at 4pm at 13 Goldsmith Road, Claremont.
Joceyln’s Biography
Jocelyn was born in Sydney and travelled to Perth with her mum, father, and two sisters in 1937. The family lived in Peppermint Grove and Jocelyn recalls riding bikes to attend St Hilda’s Girls’ School. She enjoyed her school years, especially playing sport and at age 13 joined the Peppermint Grove tennis club. Jocelyn was a nurse. Initially at Royal Perth Hospital including a year in the operating theatre. Following this, she went to Sydney to study midwifery at Crown Street Women’s’ Hospital – all boobs and bottoms but a very happy side of nursing. She spent a year as a midwife at St Luke’s Hospital then to Sydney Hospital as a theatre sister.
Upon returning home and going out to a party and met Mervyn. Married and spent 48 fabulous years together. Mervyn had a daughter in Perth and their son Andrew was born in 1963. Mervyn and Jocelyn travelled a lot and they had a good friend who had a chateau in France.
Mervyn was president of the Architects’ society and Jocelyn recalls one-year meeting the Duke of Edinburgh who presented Mervyn with an award in Perth. The Duke was a gorgeous man. Jocelyn played golf at Lake Karrinyup Country Club and tennis at the local club. Mervyn also had a boat.
Bridge took over Jocelyn’s life when she turned 80, no more sport. Jocelyn enjoyed 30 her bridge and thought the move to Swanbourne was fabulous. Jocelyn loved this club.
