Andy: Gold Coast Congress Results

Andy’s team mates Gold Coast Congress: Shane Harrison (his bridge partner), Andy, Alex Smirnov, Sibrand van Oosten (from Netherlands)

In the Gold Coast Congress Open Teams tournament, Andy’s team qualified 4th in the Swiss, but lost in the Quarter Finals. His team (pictured above) was Shane Harrison (Andy’s bridge partner), Andy, Alex Smirnov and Sibrand van Oosten (from Netherlands)

Fortunately for WABC Alex, who normally lives in Lubeck in the northern part of Germany, came to Australia as Andy’s teammate in the Gold Coast Congress and is now coming on to Perth. He is going to continue the series of WABC workshops on Andy’s behalf on Saturdays 11th and 18th March at 10:30am. The first one Alex will run will be on "The Secrets of Declarer Play in NT contracts", and the second one on "6 Important Reasons to Not Draw Trumps"

Alex Smirnov, is Andy Hung’s good friend, bridge team member, has often co-run bridge holidays with Andy and will be familiar to attendees He is also known to WABC members as he has run some of the Supervised Sessions at the club. Alex was the person who influenced (convinced) Andy to start teaching in bridge, and taught him all about it. His teaching style is a little different to Andy’s, and the comparison may be interesting.

Andy will be competing in his next US Nationals in New Orleans starting on 9th March. We wish him well in this tournament.
