Christmas Party

The day started badly. No power!

At least there are windows and some skylights in the playing area, and it wasn’t hot so the lack of air conditioning was acceptable. The really good news was that the paella was to be cooked with gas. The director could get by with a laptop, battery powered bridgemates, and a loud voice. The players? Well there might have been some allowance for miscounting points in the darkness or mixing up the spades and clubs or the hearts and diamonds. Perhaps an early drink would have helped, but not long after play started the power was restored and all was well.

A quick look at the scores while collecting a drink. There were three sections and our winners were Deana Wilson & Pim Birss; John McMullin & Geoff Yeo; Val Fleay & Lesley Wineberg; Dave Parham & Marion Jefferson; Judith Wilson & Linda Wild; Liz Bushell & Jane Ward.

Then onto the prizes and thanking those who have helped so much throughout the past year. Quite a few of our winners were absent, which was a pity but everyone at the party, winner or not, seemed to be having a good time.

Sheenagh entertained us throughout the prize giving and we all hope to see her at the club from time to time both playing and helping. Those macarons she turned up with were excellent. In fact there were a lot of treats produced by various members for dessert. The paella (seafood, chicken or vegetarian) was a nice change from pizza.

Enjoy the photos below. How many of our members do you recognize?
