John Smyth

John, a member of WABC for nearly 30 years, died on February 15, the day after his 91st birthday. His wife, Ruth, predeceased him by about 5 years and John never made the transition from Dalkeith to Swanbourne. He is well remembered by longstanding club members for producing excellent, witty posters for special events such as Melbourne Cup day and the Christmas party. John had a very individual bridge style, particularly for his long standing adherence to the "Culbertson" system.

He served with distinction in the RAF, during World War 2, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
